バンクーバーの看板やネオンサインの規制は1989年に定められて、それ以来、見直しがされずに来ています。当時から25年経って、テクノロジーの進歩とともに看板やネオンサインも変わってきています。
今はその見直し議論がまだ始まったばかりの状況。
看板・ネオンサインの条例
・Applies primarily to signs that businesses use to identify themselves on private property.
・Provides size, shape, height, and placement regulations for over 20 different sign types.
・Regulates signs in different areas of the city;
More prominent signage is generally permitted in the downtown core and local commercial areas
Signs in residential areas are the most restricted.
・Regulates signs in five different districts including the Chinatown and Gastown historic districts, the West End, Granville Street, International Village, and Rogers Arena.
・Does not apply to signs on streets and sidewalks, parks, provincial or federal lands or signs that are not visible from the street.
