12月30日、エアカナダAC88便（B777)がアラスカ付近を航行中に「激しい」乱気流に巻き込まれました。乗客330人以上を乗せた777がちょっと揺れたかと思ったら、一気に急降下。乗客を含め、機内におびただしい物が「浮遊」した、との乗客の一人が語った、ものの、事故の模様を伝える記事を読み進むと、違った光景が見えて来ました。
They warned passengers in advance, said Toronto resident Mr.XXXX
“The pilot said, ‘this is going to be a very turbulent area,’ ” he noted.
とコメントがあり、事前にパイロットから「乱気流」のアナウンスがあったようです。
Several passengers recalled hearing cries and watching people who weren’t wearing seatbelts get thrust out of their seats when the plane began to shake.
“Some guys just flew,” said Mr.XXXX “It was crazy.”
こうしたことを知るにつけ、「警告でシートベルトをしなかった人」がケガしたんじゃないの？となるのは当方だけでしょうか。
この事故へのコメントも、ケガした人への同情よりも、「シートベルトしていないお前が悪い」式のコメントが多くみられます。
中には乗務員の対応や飛行機を墜落させなかったパイロットへの称賛もあったり…。
Just got off the plane from HK to YVR and after seeing how stupid many people on the flight were, I hope this will teach people that the rules the flight attendants go over are actually important. I assume it was mainly attendant that were injured so my thoughts are with them and home they are okay! I’ve been though rough turbulence and the only passengers injured were all those not wearing seatbelts. Listen to you next flight attendant, they may actually save your life!

確かに20数名のケガをされた方には早い回復と同情を禁じえませんが、シートベルトをしなかったためでしたら…、
ましてや、そうした人達によって、ケガをさせられた人もおられるのでは、と逆に気になってしまう次第。
